Yo suckers, ask me five questions. I don't care how personal, innappropriate (if there's such a thing?), or off the wall they may be, I pinky swear to tell the truth. This is your chance to grill me on some pretty heavy shit, or get some answers you're digging for.

7:02 pm - F*cking Rolling Stone Magazine
|
So I just saw Rolling Stone's top 500 songs of all time and was flabergasted. Some of the best songs ever written were left off the top ten, fifty, even one hundred...Friggin Freebird was like ninety something. It was absurd, so in protest I made my own top 100 songs of all time list. Now the only flaws I see in this list is that there were a lot of songs which were part of a concept album which I was unable to put on the list because I would have to put the whole album, i.e. Tommy, Darkside of the Moon, Quadrophenia, American Idiot, etc.. So I figured those songs would be honored in their own right when I make a list of 100 greatest albums, until then, enjoy Matt Mannarino's top 100 songs, and please feel free to comment on your opinions, by no means is this list concrete...yet.
1) Led Zeppelin: "Stairway to Heaven" 2) Lynyrd Skynyrd: "Freebird" 3) Thin Lizzy: "Cowboy Song" 4) The Who: "Baba O’Riley" 5) Queen: "Bohemian Rhapsody" 6) Derek & The Dominoes: "Layla" 7) The Eagles: "Hotel California" 8) CSN: "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" 9) Dire Straits: "The Sultans of Swing" 10) The Allman Brothers: "Blue Sky" 11) Bruce Springsteen: "Born to Run" 12) The Who: "Won’t Get Fooled Again" 13) Pink Floyd: "Wish You Were Here" 14) Boston: "More Than a Feeling" 15) Lynyrd Skynyrd: "Simple Man" 16) Rush: "2112" 17) Led Zeppelin: "Over The Hills & Far Away" 18) Mountain: "Nantucket Sleighride" 19) Stone Temple Pilots: "Plush" 20) Elton John: "Tiny Dancer" 21) Jimi Hendrix: "Little Wing" 22) Billy Joel: "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant" 23) Rolling Stones: "Sympathy For The Devil" 24) Jethro Tull: "Thick as a Brick" 25) The Cars: "Just What I Needed" 26) ABBA: "S.O.S." 27) Styx: "Come Sail Away" 28) Jackson Browne: "These Days" 29) The Moody Blues: "Nights in White Satin" 30) Simon & Garfunkel: "The Boxer" 31) The Allman Brothers: "Jessica" 32) The Smashing Pumpkins: "Tonight, Tonight" 33) I Mother Earth: "Earth, Sky & C" 34) James Taylor: "Fire & Rain" 35) Bob Dylan: "The Hurricane" 36) Goo Goo Dolls: "Iris" 37) Fleetwood Mac: "Rhiannon" 38) The Eagles: "Desperado" 39) The Beatles: "Eleanor Rigby" 40) Pink Floyd: "Comfortably Numb" 41) U2: "Where the Streets Have No Name" 42) Yes: "Roundabout" 43) Boston: "Peace of Mind" 44) Green Day: "80" 45) Jimi Hendrix: "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" 46) Blue Oyster Cult: "Don’t Fear The Reaper" 47) Journey: "Don’t Stop Believing" 48) The Kinks: "Victoria" 49) Santana: "Black Magic Woman" 50) Edgar Winter Group: "Frankenstein" 51) Led Zeppelin: "Ten Years Gone" 52) Black Sabbath: "Snowblind" 53) Live: "Lightning Crashes" 54) Rush: "Closer to the Heart" 55) Bruce Springsteen: "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" 56) The Steve Miller Band: "Rock n’ Me" 57) The Rolling Stones: "Paint It Black" 58) The Doobie Brothers: "China Grove" 59) Coldplay: "The Scientist" 60) The Animals: "It’s My Life" 61) Mountain: "Mississippi Queen" 62) Aerosmith: "Mama Kin" 63) Nirvana: "In Bloom" 64) The Who: "Happy Jack" 65) AC/DC: "Back In Black" 66) The Moody Blues: "Tuesday Afternoon" 67) Metallica: "Master of Puppets" 68) Fleetwood Mac: "Landslide" 69) Jovanotti: "Bella" 70) Paul McCartney: "Maybe I’m Amazed" 71) The Beatles: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" 72) ABBA: "Mamma Mia" 73) Derek & The Dominoes: "Bell Bottom Blues" 74) The Clash: "London Calling" 75) R.E.M.: "Losing My Religion" 76) Yes: "Close to the Edge" 77) I Mother Earth: "Three Days Old" 78) Guns & Roses: "Sweet Child O’ Mine" 79) The Band: "The Weight" 80) Emerson. Also, that time of the year when the rock and roll hall of fame picks its inductees is almost upon us...start preparing for my relentless rage when no one on my list of bands which need to be in the hall of fame will be inducted, again. -MMM

5:13 pm - Encore!
|
Just beat Skies of Arcadia, and yes I cried. It was such a great ending to such a fantastic game. I can say confidently it must have been one of my top three favorite RPGs of all time, behind the invincible Final Fantasy VII, and a close tie with Secret of Mana. If only more games were made that spectacularly. Wow... spectacular. Now I'm in a good mood, and hopefully even gooder after I may actually get to see Team America in the theaters tonight after being thwarted twice in the previous two weeks. Also I applied for an internship over the summer in nanotechnology research, hopefully I will get it. :) -MMM

7:55 pm - Drain The Pressure From The Swelling
|
Ever since basically the start of high school, I have fallen in and out, almost sinusoidally of depression. The latest wave had started shortly after my birthday this year. Now many great things that I would normally be absolutely ecstatic about, have only seemed ok, with the exception of the Red Sox which still seems unreal. Back in high school I was often able to find solace in music which would find the wound and aid in healing it. I still believe that if it wasn't for "Baba O'Riley" I would not have made it this far in life. Lately the music just simply has not been as potent as before, I don't know whether its effect is wearing off, or if my problems have become to complex for music to truly fix them or what. It didn't help that I felt very betrayed by someone whom I once considered a friend here in Lowell. Then just when it seemed like I could not feel much worse, I went to visit my cousin Liz and her baby. I love Liz, and I know that she has had a hard life and made some really bad decisions. Then when I saw her baby, no more than a week old, I realized, now matter how bad life seems to be, no matter what you do, no matter how bad you screw up, there can always be a neon genesis. Holding that baby, and looking into her face was really like seeing blue skies from pain. I knew that no matter how much shit I have to take from people in this world, I am strong enough to hold up, for one day these arms will surely turn into wings and take me to the skies of hope. -MMM

Wow, finally, the Sox are in the world series again, and in such a fitting fashion. Catching the Yanks with their thumbs in their asses. Now if my Stros win tonight, my ultimate dream of a Red Sox Astros World series will be complete. Naturally I will be rooting for the Sox, but a part of me always wants to see Bags, Biggio, Berks, and my new love Brad Lidge suceed. So until next week, GO Killer B's destroy those goddam Cardinals!!! -MMM

|
First off, American Idiot, the new Green Day album is amazing and everyone should buy it, especially if you like rock operas/concept albums. So I came home this weekend to find a "UML Magazine" in my house. Apparently one of my professors is going to host a PBS special on Plastics and the Future!!! also our math team did very well in an international competition: "In 2004, one of UMass Lowell's teams achieved the ranking of Meritorious, the third in our history of the competition. This is the second highest rank and places UMass Lowell in the top 11 percent of competitors- and ahead of teams from the University of Michigan, Cornell, Northwestern, WPI, and Boston University..." All I can say is SUCK IT CORNELL!!! a motherf*cking state school schooled u Ivy League pricks! -MMM

11:22 pm - Boomerang?
|
Best lyrics ever written by man:
Making somebody happy is a question of give and take You can learn how to show it so come on give yourself a break Every smile and every little touch Don´t you know that they mean so much Sweet sweet kisses so tender, always will return to sender
Like a bang - a - bomm - a - bommerang Dum - de - dum - dum, de - dum - de - dum - dum Oh bang - a - boom - a - boomerang Love is a tune you hum - de - hum - hum By giving away, I think you´ll learn You´ll get love in return So bang - a - boom - a - boomerang is love A boom - a - boomerang is love
Love is always around and you can look for it anywhere When you feel that you´ve found it my advice is to take good care Never use it as a selfish tool, never ever be such a fool Every feeling you´re showing is that boomerang you´re throwing
Yeah so bang - a - boom - a -boomerang Dum - de - dum - dum, de - dum - de - dum - dum Oh bang - a - boom - a - boomerang Love is a tune you hum - de - hum - hum Well give it away, I think you´ll learn You´ll get love in return So bang - a - boom - a - boomerang is love
And if you´re warm and tender I kiss you return to sender please surrender
Bang - a - boom - a - boomerang Dum - de - dum - dum, de - dum - de - dum - dum Oh bang - a - boom - a - boomerang is love A boom - a - boomerang is love

So I moved back into teh Umass Lowell yesterday. I am now in the exciting all-male dorm known as Smith, which is a grand total of 20 feet from all of my classes (Now more crossing collapsing University Ave. bridge in groing-grabbingly torrential storms on foot). The new roomate is MUCH better than the Eugene, though Eugene wasn't all that bad, he just rubs me teh wrong way :P. The whole "gang" is only 2 floors below me, so it ain't so bad. I'm liking the setup of our room, and cable was supposed to be set up 2 hours ago, yet still fuzz. Tomorrow is my lovely bitch day of classes from 7:30am-4:20pm I am at the mercy of the University. I love engineering, so much more work than any other major. Oh well, at least I never have to take Physics again!!! -MMM

4:16 pm - I'm a Bird in the Sky
|
Man I love teh New Hampshire, it always raises my spirits. I climbed five (4,000+ ft.) mountains in four days, which is more than I have ever done, but it was awesome, especially the one I did yesterday (Willey) even though it was a frustrating climb, once I got to the top, there were two birds up there and if I put a peanut in my hand they would come over and sit on my hand and eat the peanuts. I just got back late last night, and am relatively free until the 6th of Spetamber if anyone wants to do something. I will post pictures of my buddy the bird soon. No more internship, though on the overall I did enjoy it, it sure feels good not having to do anything, at least until school starts. Plus Fucking Ted Lilly and Brian Lawrence pitched complete game shutouts on back to back days, my fantasy team still has a chance (for 5th place). -MMM

9:58 am - Blood of the Sun
|
So basically I have had the greatest two weeks, possibly of my life. It all started two saturdays ago when I ran into Helen @ the Natick mall, she was excited to see me & gave me her cell phone number and all. So I thought, hey that's pretty cool, and later found a Stevie nicks cd for really cheap. Then on Wednesday I saw Mamma Mia, Front row of the mezzazine, and it was SPECTACULAR, better than I could have ever imagined, I must go again. then last Friday I went to Montreal for a frisbee tournament which was really fun, but the best part was that I bought i Mother Earth's 1st cd which is impossible to find in America. Then Wednesday Ugo & I went into Boston & I finally bought a fitted Red Sox cap, which may not sound that exciting, but it was, and we went to Jillians and played some pool & watched the game. Then it all culminated last night when I saw Mountain Live 2nd row. The show was great, and I was ten feet from my hero Leslie West for two hours. After the show I was able to go backstage and meet the band. For anyone who knows me, I would cut off my left nut to meet Leslie West. So my sister & I are backstage in the "VIP room" when suddenly Corky Laing (drummer) comes in. I'm thinking "OHMIGOD IT'S CORKY!!!" He's all cool, and talks to me, signs my album, takes a picture, offers me a corona, the usual. Then not 10 minutes later, then man, the myth, the legend, Leslie fucking West comes in. He signs my album & takes a picture with me. Then I gave him a photo of the mural of the Mountain album cover I painted @ North, and he says: "You painted this? No shit. Thanks" and shakes my hand. Ohhhhh Man IT WAS SO COOL!!!! -MMM

8:59 pm - I Dream I Can Spread My Wings
|
Tuesday was the Alana's Birthday, so I gave her the "special present" I got for her, a Gibson Les Paul, I think she liked it. I had bought it in Nashua, and got a pretty good deal on it, though it was still crazy expensive. Then today at my crazy summer internship, I went to Monson, MA with Steve Biancuzzo & Chris Maggiacomo, thats right, when Nova Biomedical doesn't get what it wants from it's molding suppliers, they send a trio of Guineas over to set things straight. it was a really fun trip, those two guys were hilarious, then when I got back, I was too lazy to do any actual engineering work, so I went down to our molding shop and hung around there for a while...all in all, a quality day, though my fantasy team is going down the hole...btw I just realized my star pitcher, "Kevin Millwood" has actually been my worst pitcher thus far, which pisses me off, since people like Ted Lilly, whom I like, but frankly is not nearly as good has gotten me almost twice as many points....FRUSTRATING!!!! Mamma Mia in 13 days> -MMM

The main reason in which I have not updated in so long is that I have been working so much at my internship. It's a lot of work and I'm usually way too tired by the end of the day to do anything, even to update about my mundane "day at the office." Not much of any interest has happened recently, I did get another $5,000.00 last night, which is pretty nice. I'm probably going up to Nahua this wknd if someone wants to go wink wink DAVE!!! or anyone really who wants to go on a fun little trip to the happiest TAX FREE place in the world. Mamma Mia in 24 days, Jill, Ksenia....GET PUMPED! The only thing that happened recently was my two fun trips to Dorchester...but I will have to tel ya'll about that later ;) -MMM

|
After a week of intense studying, mostly for the physics final, the semester is over, and with any luck I will get an A in EM Physics, but not likely. It was a pretty rough week. Aside from they all the studying I was constantly hoping that someone who loved me yesterday would still love me tomorrow. Hope should be much stronger than it is. I always feel that my hopes will always be chained, especially when they are entirely in someone elses hands. Now that my finals are done, it has been the only thing on my mind. I no longer have the comfort of Michael Faraday and Gauss to distract me from the inner, and outer demons. I wish I was still a child, never having to wonder about all the harm of the outside world, because mother would never let anyone harm her baby.
